MY STORY
NANCY MCCARTHY
Hi, I’m Nancy — a Mom and passionate home cook, former nurse, and a lifelong believer that the best memories are made around the table.
My love for cooking began when I was just a little girl, standing on a stool beside my mother, helping her stir pots and knead dough. Our kitchen was small, but it was filled with warmth, laughter, and the delicious smells of slow-cooked meals. Every recipe had a story — a lesson, a memory, or a tradition passed down.
Some of my favorite memories come from visiting my grandmother in the countryside. She didn’t use cookbooks or measuring cups — just her hands, her heart, and generations of wisdom. I remember watching her work in her sunlit kitchen, using fresh vegetables from the garden, grinding spices by hand, and baking bread that could rival any bakery. That’s where I truly fell in love with food — not just eating it, but understanding its roots and the love that goes into making it.

Though life took me into nursing, where I spent years caring for others, the kitchen was always my sanctuary. Cooking became a way to unwind, reconnect, and create joy in the everyday. It was during those years that I realized cooking and caring aren’t so different — both are acts of love.
Eventually, I decided to follow my heart and deepen my knowledge by attending cooking school. I wanted to learn the technical side of things — how flavors work together, how to elevate classic dishes, and how to combine the comfort of old-world recipes with the creativity of modern cuisine.
That’s what this blog is all about.
Here, I share recipes that are close to my heart — some passed down from my mother and grandmother, others inspired by my time in culinary school, and many created through my own experiments and adventures in the kitchen. Whether it’s a rustic stew from the countryside, a quick weeknight dinner, or a twist on a traditional favorite, each dish is crafted with care and a story behind it.
I started this blog as a way to preserve those memories and share the joy of cooking with others. Whether you’re a beginner just starting out or a seasoned cook looking for new inspiration, I hope you’ll find something here that brings warmth to your home and a smile to your face.
Thank you for being here. Let’s cook something beautiful together.
With love,
Nancy
